Healthy Habits: Smoothies

14:18Mayra N.

Smoothies are really trendy right now, but they are one of our very favorite busy girl breakfast options and detox snack. Everyone’s selling them, posting them, and trying to create the perfect concoction. They’re quick to whip up, delicious to drink down, and full of the vitamins and nutrients needed to give you a good boost of energy

Chances are you’ve probably tried to create the perfect recipe or seen more than a few recipes on your Instagram feed. As delicious as they may look, there are a few things you should know before breaking out the blender. So I decided get details on how to make a few tasty and healthy! versions of the perfect smoothie.

Before we get to the tasty recipes, it is important to note that juicing and smoothies are not for everyone, but most importantly, it’s not about starving yourself or trying to survive only on liquids. Juicing and Smoothies are about working with your body and keeping you healthy and feeling full!!!

NOW, lets get to some of my favorite recipes (please note I am not a nutritionist or health coach, I just like to play with my veggies and fruits):

 Traditional
1 serving PROTEIN + 1 serving FIBER+ unlimited GREENS + 1/4 cup FRUCTOSE +2 tbsp FAT + LIQUID + SUPERFOOD (recipe from Be Well Smoothie)

  1. For protein look for a clean sprouted vegetarian protein or grass fed whey
  2. For fiber you can use raw fiber powder or chia seeds, flax seeds, or even avocado
  3. Greens can be anything from kale to spinach, basil, parsley, cucumber, anything green and leafy works.
  4. Fruit or high fructose vegetables can be whatever you like, berries, banana, mango, peach, carrot, just be sure not to overdo it. Frozen fruits are great if you like a thicker smoothie.
  5. For the fat category you can choose coconut oil, avocado, nut butter, or walnuts.
  6. Liquids can be water, almond milk, coconut water, cashew milk, cold pressed green juice, walnut milk or hemp milk.
